They say everyone has their 15 minutes of fame. My next guest though wants a bit more than his Andy Warhol limit of a quarter of an hour. He doesnt care how he does it either or what he has to do to get there. He just wants everyone to know his name and his face. Its Stephen Goddard, good morning to you.
Hi, how are you?
Alright thank you. So what drives you to be famous?
I would say its the desire to have attention - its the attention which I crave most of all.
And where does that come from do you think?
Where does it come from? I dont think there is any deep seated reason for it. I wasnt neglected as a child or anything like that, I just think Im a bit of an extrovert.
And what about your family? What do they think of your attention seeking?
Ever since I was born Ive been an attention seeker and theyre fine with it, they support me 100%
I mean, the thing is, that a lot of people would think that someone whos seeking all this attention doesnt really have a life.
I dont think that applies to me at all.
Right, cuz youve got a job.
Ive had a good full life so far. Ive travelled the world, Ive had my own business.
How old are you?
Im 23
Ok, good full life, very good. And what have you done to try and be famous? Have you tried to audition for all these shows?
Yeah Ive tried to audition for every single show thats going practically. Because my personality is so big Ive had to create an alter ego. She is called Misty Monroe-Manhattan and shes the weapon that I use to get attention, so Ive gone down to Tom Cruises film premier dressed in a tutu, bra and a wig and flashed my tenderness, I conned the national tabloids into thinking I was a pre-op transsexual in the final line-up for Big Brother, I hired a cherry-picker out and descended upon the Big Brother garden singing Shania Twains Man! I Feel Like a Woman!, but then the police took me away so thats a whole other story. But the list goes on and on.
So, and what about these audition type shows like the X Factor, Pop Idol, those type of things have you been involved in that as well?
Yeah Ive done all of those.
So whats stopping you getting through then?
Erm, good question really . I just think that people dont know quirky talent when they see it.
Now the thing is, youve got to have respect for people like Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh and these kind of people who have got a background and a lot of success, a good track record in making money in music and you would imagine therefore that they know what theyre talking about and I would say that a lot of people that dont get through, whichever round theyre in, some take it very well and a lot of other people would say well I am talented, I am fantastic, they dont know what theyre missing which category do you fall into?
I fall into the latter, I am fantastic and they dont know what theyre missing. Just to go back to what you said earlier about Simon Cowell and Louis Walsh, I think its important to remember that things like the X Factor and Pop Idol are TV shows and you just have to look at people like Steve Brookstein and Michelle McManus - where are they now?
But also, you could look at Will Young - hes selling millions of albums.
Thats true - I think hes the minority though
But in every selection process theres gonna be some people who go on to do great things and some people who just fall by the wayside. So you confess youre in the second category then but you must sit in your armchair when you watch these programmes and think that they are rubbish and have no talent. People will be saying that about you wont they?
Fine, they can say what they want. They can exploit me, they can talk bad about me etc. But you just have to look at Chico form this years x factor - hes terrible but hes entertaining.
Yes, but he wont last much longer will he. He only just escaped this week.
Yes, but theyre keeping him in for entertainment value.
So if were saying that this is mainly a television show for entertainment on a Saturday night and second to that maybe the ability to find a star, then youre probably right. But to get further down the road because those people that do fall away if they dont have any talent no-one ever hears of them anymore,
but the ones that do have talent can carve out a bit of a career. But theyve gotta have some talent and surely if you had talent you would have been spotted by now?
I wouldnt say that I would necessarily have been spotted by now, I mean there are people that dont make it until theyre 40 and if thats me, then so be it. I just think its being in the right place at the right time.
Mm, and what qualities do you think youve got?
I think id be a fantastic television presenter especially as Misty
Why do you think youd be such a good TV presenter?
Because Im an eloquent person, Im confident and cameras dont intimidate me and I think Misty is a very good visual.
Do you know a lot about a lot of stuff?
I know quite a bit about a lot of stuff, dont quiz me on politics though as they bore me.
Ah well, there you see that could be the chink in your armour.
Well if someone said to me We'll give you this show if you learn about politics, Id learn about politics!
So how long are you going to go on for before you decide to stop because you dont want to be a 40 year old and have still not made it do you
Why not?
Im sure youd wanna give up before then.
If youre born with a dream you have to pursue it no matter what dont you.
But at the same time reality kicks in because you must spend a lot of time, money and effort trying to achieve your dream which is admirable in one sense but at some point surely you have to say Actually this isnt working.
I dont see that happening. I dont smoke, I dont drink so I may as well spend my money on something else.
What do your mates think about it?
Everyone supports me. A lot of people that I meet say that Im incredibly entertaining and when Big Brother first began so many people told me I should be in the house, and I know that doesnt necessarily mean Ive go talent but it means I can entertain and I think theres a difference between the two.
So if youve got all those things what do you think is the block then to you not getting on Big Brother cause you dont have to have any talent to be on Big Brother
No, certainly not! I think its just purely the amount of people that audition, I think the odds are stacked against you and youve got to be extremely lucky.
So its just bad luck that youve not got through so far?
Cause it is. I mean Ive not got a voice like Christina Aguilera and I cant act as well as Tom Hanks but I can sing better than the Cheeky Girls and act better than Paris Hilton and they have both been successes
Alright, we wish you all the best of luck. Thank you very much.
